Golden Venture Folding
Title: Twin Vessels 2,220 Year: 2022 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 16’’ x 8.5’’ x 6.5’’ Description of Fabrication: I title each of my paper vessels after the number of origami modules it takes to build them. For this piece each of the vessels contain 2,220 individual pieces. These two hexagonal paper vessels mirror each other. The form on the left is accentuated by the blue pieces outlining each segment, but the building pattern is the same.
Title: Bowl 3,800 Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 14’’ x 14’’ x 6.25 Description of Fabrication: This shallow bowl with a foot ring is inspired by Chinese serving bowls.
Title: Vase 4,118 Year: 2022 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 7’’ x 7’’ x 16’’ Description of Fabrication: This vase form draws inspiration from the human heart. While not meant to be an exact replica, the body of the vessel represents the heart ventricles and the neck represents the arteries or aorta at the top of the heart.

Title: Tulip Vase 5,952 Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 11’’ x 11’’ x 14.5’’ Description of Fabrication: For this vessel form, I drew inspiration from banded tulip seashells. I used to collect shells every time I went to the beach and the tulip shells were some of my favorites to find. I enjoy the roundness of the body and accentuated the eight segments of the form with blue details.

Title: Double Gourd Vase 7,572 Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 11’’ x 11’’ x 21’’ Award Winner Boynes Artist Award 9th Edition Description of Fabrication: This piece is inspired by Chinese gourd shaped bottles from the Ming period. Bottle gourds were originally used in China to hold medicine. Later porcelain vessels shaped like these gourds were produced and many were spread through the Silk Road.
Title: Double Gourd Vase 7,572 Detail Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 11’’ x 11’’ x 11’’
Title: 14,412 Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 11.5’’ x 11.5’’ x 31.5’’ Description of Fabrication: 14,412 is an experimental piece. It is the tallest paper vessel I have even built and contains the largest number of modules. The three main segments of the form can be taken apart and put back together to form a different vessel. The form itself vaguely reminds me of a human form.
Title: 10,000 V. 1 Year: 2022 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 16’’ x 16’’ x 16.5’’ Description of Fabrication: This is the first piece of my "Paper Vessel Series" and the piece that started my paper portfolio. Each version in the 10,000 series is made from 10,000 individual origami modules folded from recycled printer paper. No glue or adhesive of any kind was used in the creation of these paper vessels.

After tearing apart 10,000 V.1, I reused the origami pieces to build this second structure experimenting with negative and positive segments.

Title: 10,000 V. 3 Year: 2022 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 18’’ x 18’’ x 16’’ Description of Fabrication: This is the third piece within the "Paper Vessel Series." After gaining a better understanding of how the paper form can bend and structurally support itself, I built this last paper vessel. I was interested in testing the extent that the paper could support itself without any outside mediums or tools.

Title: Peony Vase 9,279 Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 12’’ x 12’’ x 23’’ Description of Fabrication: Tz’ū Chou Mei P’ing Vase with peony designs was a challenge to recreate in paper form. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, the tree peony became a Chinese cultural symbol representing female beauty, love, wealth, and status. Peonies can be found in historical Chinese paintings and ceramics.
Title: Vase 7,537 Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 12.5’’ x 12.5’’ x 20’’ Description of Fabrication: This teardrop shaped vase is decorated with scalloped edges and repetitive floral images. Several of the paper vessels within my series are results of experimenting with transitional parts.
Title: Vase 4,604 Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 8.5’’ x 8.5’’ x 16.5’’ Description of Fabrication: For this narrow vase I was focused primarily on experimenting with pattern and form. Again taking inspiration from traditional Chinese porcelain, I used a white and blue color palette to produce a subtle pattern within the textured vase. As color is slowly bleeding into my work, I find myself still drawn to soft pastels.
Title: Decorative Bowl 8,732 Year: 2023 Medium: Paper Dimensions: 36’’ x 36’’ x 9.5’’ Description of Fabrication: Bowl 8,732 is a large version of a shallow serving bowl with a petal rim. For this vessel I experimented with folding origami pieces four times larger than the original pattern. Using larger pieces caused the bowl to grow to 3 ft in diameter. The pattern I am referencing comes from a Tang Dynasty ceramic demon figure.

Golden Venture Folding Instructions
Torn
Golden Venture Folding begins with a standard 8.5’’ x 11’’ sheet of printer paper. The paper is folded in half and torn along the fold producing two equal halves. These resulting pieces are folded and torn in half again. Repeat this process until 32 rectangles are produced.
Once a stack of rectangular pieces have been torn, each gets folded into a modular triangle piece. The folding process contains six simple steps:
1. Fold the paper in half along the long side.
2. Fold the edges of the paper to meet along the halfway mark making a V-shaped point at the bottom.
3. Flip the piece.
4. On each of the rectangular pieces fold the corners down to meet the top edge of the triangle.
5. Fold the overhanging pieces down to be flush with the edge of the triangle.
6. Finally, fold the triangle in half.
